On A Journey

One artist. Every album. Ten songs.

The Music of Journey

Journey was recommended to me by my mother. After the TV show Glee covered Don’t Stop Believin’ back in 2009 and introduced my entire generation to the band, I had a bit more exposure to them playing Rock Band on the PS3 with hits like Any Way You Want It. Journey’s music – or at least the music of theirs I liked best – is joyful, earnest, and wildly fun. Across the top ten tracks I selected, there’s an unignorable sense that everything’s going to be alright and that we all just need to hold on a little bit longer. In many ways, Don’t Stop Believin’ might even serve as the band’s central thesis.

Journey started off in 1973 and is still touring fifty years later, which is an impressive feat to say the least. With fifteen albums under their belt and millions and millions of sales, few bands can hope to compete with their success. At the same time, 18 different people have made up Journey over the years. There’s been a lot of turnover, but lead guitarist Neal Schon has been there from the very beginning. If classic rock and boundless optimism is your thing, then you’re in for a real treat.
